The Grey Elves - those of the Teleri who remained in Middle-earth when the other Elven clans journeyed to Valinor. Led by Thingol and Melian in the hidden kingdom of Doriath, the Sindar built a rich civilisation in the forests of Beleriand. They are the predominant Elven culture encountered in Middle-earth throughout the later ages.
