Content Requests
What are content requests?
Content requests let you ask us to add new books, series, characters, authors, or universes to OpenFiction. If something you love isn't in our database yet, you can request it and others can vote to show their interest too.
How do I send a request?
- Go to the Requests page
- Click the "New Request" button
- Choose what type of content you're requesting (book, series, character, etc.)
- Fill in the title and tell us why it should be added
- Optionally add reference links (like Wikipedia or Goodreads pages)
- Click "Send your request"
You'll need to be signed in to send a request.
How does voting work?
Once a request is published on the public list, anyone with an account can vote for it. Voting shows us which requests matter most to the community. The more votes a request has, the more likely we are to prioritise it.
- Click the vote button on any request to add your vote
- Click again to remove your vote (unless it's your own request)
- You automatically vote for requests you send
Note: Votes aren't the only factor we consider. We also look at how much work is involved, what content we're currently focusing on, and whether it fits OpenFiction's scope.
What happens after I send a request?
- Your request starts as "Pending Review" - only you and our curators can see it.
- A curator will check it within a few days. They'll either approve it for voting or let you know if there's an issue.
- Once approved, your request appears on the public list as "Open for Votes" where anyone can vote for it.
- We review popular requests and decide which ones to work on based on votes, effort involved, and what we're currently focusing on.
- When we start working on it, the status changes to "In Progress", then "Completed" once it's live.
You'll receive notifications at each stage so you always know what's happening with your request.
What do the different statuses mean?
| Pending Review | Your request is waiting for a curator to check it. This usually takes a few days. You can still edit or delete your request while it's pending. |
| Open for Votes | Your request is on the public list! Others can now vote to show their interest. You can no longer edit it (because others voted based on your description). |
| Accepted | Great news! We've decided to add this content. It's on our list to work on. |
| In Progress | Someone is actively working on adding this right now. |
| Completed | The content has been added to OpenFiction! You'll see a link to view it. |
| Not Listed | Your request wasn't added to the public voting list. This might be because it needs more detail, is a duplicate, or doesn't fit OpenFiction's scope. Check the feedback from the curator. |
| Withdrawn | Your request was removed from the public list. This can happen if it was merged with a similar request or circumstances changed. |
| Declined | We've decided not to add this content. The request is removed from the public list but you can still see the reason on your profile page. |
