A council of the Wise - Elven lords, wizards, and other powerful figures - formed to coordinate resistance against Sauron's growing shadow. Its members include Gandalf, Saruman, Elrond, and Galadriel. Saruman is its head, though Galadriel wished Gandalf to lead. The Council's effectiveness is undermined by Saruman's secret ambitions.

The second clan of the Elves, the most skilled in craft and lore. The Noldor dwelt in Valinor where they learned from the Valar, and their greatest craftsman Fëanor created the Silmarils. When Morgoth stole the jewels and murdered Fëanor's father, the Noldor followed Fëanor back to Middle-earth in pursuit - committing terrible deeds along the way, including the kinslaying at Alqualondë. Their history in Middle-earth is one of heroism, tragedy, and the long consequences of Fëanor's oath.
