Chapter 1: Hoodlums punch my face / I would smite them if I could / Mortality blows
Apollo, former god of the sun, wakes up falling from the sky and crash-lands in a Manhattan dumpster, stripped of his divinity by Zeus as punishment. Now trapped in the mortal body of a teenager named Lester Papadopoulos, he is confused, weak, and humiliated. Two street thugs named Cade and Mikey corner him in the alley, and despite Apollo's attempts to fight back with what he believes is his godly strength, they easily overpower and beat him.
Chapter 2: A girl from nowhere / Completes my embarrassment / Stupid bananas
A twelve-year-old girl named Meg McCaffrey rescues Apollo from the thugs by pelting them with rotten fruit using mysterious powers. The thugs mention they were sent by a 'boss' who knew Apollo would land there. Meg claims Apollo's service as her own, binding him to her by Zeus's decree. She takes his money but agrees to accompany him to find Percy Jackson on the Upper East Side, who Apollo believes can help them reach Camp Half-Blood.
Chapter 3: Used to be goddy / Now uptown feeling shoddy / Bah, haiku don't rhyme
Apollo and Meg trudge through Manhattan towards Percy Jackson's apartment. Apollo is horrified to discover his mortal body has acne, flab, and no godly beauty. Meg reveals nothing about her background but seems familiar with the demigod world. They reach Percy's building and are buzzed in, though Meg notices shiny blobs following them. Percy opens the door with little enthusiasm, skeptical of Apollo's predicament.
Chapter 4: Casa de Jackson / No gold-plated throne for guests / Seriously dude?
At the Jackson apartment, Percy explains he cannot go on another quest because he needs to finish high school, study for the SAT, and be present for his pregnant mother Sally and stepfather Paul. He reveals the Oracle of Delphi has stopped working since Python retook control. Percy agrees to drive Apollo and Meg to Camp Half-Blood but refuses to get involved in a larger mission. Apollo is disappointed but accepts Percy's limited help.
Chapter 5: Seven-layer dip / Chocolate chip cookies in blue / I love this woman
Sally Jackson feeds them lunch including her famous seven-layer dip and blue chocolate chip cookies. Meg asks about Percy's demigod life, and Apollo tells them about his previous mortal punishments. Percy agrees to escort them to Camp Half-Blood, motivated partly by Sally holding his cookies hostage until he returns safely. Apollo notes Meg reminds him of a lost love, though he cannot bring himself to speak of it.
Chapter 6: Aquaman driving / Couldn't possibly be worse / Oh, wait, now it is
Percy drives Apollo and Meg towards Camp Half-Blood in his family's Prius. Three glittering plague spirits called nosoi pursue them. Percy reveals the Oracle still isn't working, creating a Catch-88 where they can't send quests without prophecies. The spirits cause the car to crash into a peach orchard near the camp's western border. Percy gets infected by one of the nosoi.
Chapter 7: Tag with plague spirits / You're it, and you're infectious / Have fun with that, LOL
Apollo, Percy, and Meg battle the three nosoi in the peach orchard. Apollo's mortal powers are useless against the spirits. Percy uses water to wash away the plague smoke but catches a head cold. The spirits cannot be killed by conventional weapons, and the trio is in grave danger.
Chapter 8: Peaches in combat / I am hanging it up right now / My brain exploded
Meg unconsciously summons a peach karpos - a ferocious fruit spirit she names Peaches - who devours all three nosoi, saving them. Percy, now sick with a cold, leaves to deal with the police and his crashed car. Apollo and Meg set off on foot through the enchanted western woods towards Camp Half-Blood, with Peaches as their guide.
Chapter 9: A walk through the woods / Voices driving me bonkers / I hate spaghetti
Apollo and Meg get lost in the enchanted woods. Apollo hears a mysterious female voice in his head demanding he find her, speaking of the fall of the sun and fires. The voice nearly drives him insane. Meg drags him through the forest, seemingly commanding the trees to part for them, and they stumble out at the Camp Half-Blood campfire where Apollo collapses.
Chapter 10: My bus is in flames / My son is older than me / Please, Zeus, make it stop
Apollo wakes in Cabin Seven at Camp Half-Blood, tended by his demigod son Will Solace. Will confirms Apollo is completely mortal. Apollo meets his other children Austin and Kayla. He has disturbing dreams about a crowned woman urging him to find gates and a man in a purple suit threatening to burn the Oracle. Outside, Apollo encounters Nico di Angelo, Will's boyfriend, who senses an aura of death around him. The centaur Chiron greets Apollo and mentions mysterious disappearances at camp.
Chapter 11: Check your spam folder / The prophecies might be there / No? Well, I'm stumped. Bye
Chiron explains that campers have been disappearing in the woods. Apollo learns about the camp's diminished state and the lack of prophecies. He begins to suspect the Grove of Dodona, an ancient Oracle, may be hidden in the camp's forest. Apollo starts to piece together the connection between the Triumvirate Holdings corporation and the control of ancient Oracles.
Chapter 12: Ode to a hot dog / With bug juice and tater chips / I got nothing, man
Apollo adjusts to life at Camp Half-Blood as a mortal teenager. He eats at the dining pavilion and begins training with the other campers. He discovers his archery and musical abilities are severely diminished. Meg is claimed by Demeter as her daughter, confirming Apollo's suspicions about her plant-related powers.
Chapter 13: Three-legged death race / Five terrible syllables / Oh, gods. Please not Meg
Apollo and Meg are paired for a three-legged race through the Labyrinth, a challenge designed by young camper Harley. They must find golden apples while navigating the underground maze. The race takes a dangerous turn when they stumble near the caverns of Delphi.
Chapter 14: You've got to be kid - / Well, crud, what just happened there? / I ran out of syl -
In the Labyrinth, Apollo and Meg discover they are near the Oracle of Delphi. Apollo senses the monstrous serpent Python lurking above them. They narrowly escape the caverns, shaken by how close they came to Apollo's ancient enemy. The experience confirms that Python has fully taken control of Delphi.
Chapter 15: Practice makes perfect / Ha, ha, ha, I don't think so / Ignore my sobbing
Apollo continues training at camp, struggling with his diminished abilities. He practices archery and music but finds both frustratingly difficult in his mortal form. He bonds with his children in Cabin Seven and begins to understand what it means to be part of a family rather than an object of worship.
Chapter 16: Tied to McCaffrey / We might end up in Lima / Harley is evil
Apollo and Meg prepare for another venture into the Labyrinth. The three-legged race continues with various camp teams competing. Apollo's frustration with his mortal limitations grows, but he begins developing genuine respect for the demigods' bravery.
Chapter 17: Bowling balls of death / Rolling toward my enemies / I'll trade you problems
Apollo and Meg navigate the Labyrinth during the three-legged race, encountering various traps and obstacles. They venture deep enough to reach the caverns beneath Delphi, where Apollo senses Python's massive body above them. The experience terrifies Apollo and confirms the serpent's growing power over the Oracle.
Chapter 18: The Beast is calling / Tell him I'm not here. Let's hide / Where? In garbage. Natch
Apollo learns more about the villain known as the Beast, whom Meg seems to fear deeply. Evidence mounts that the Beast is connected to Triumvirate Holdings and is a figure from ancient Rome. Apollo discovers the Beast has been kidnapping demigods from the New York area, and Meg has personal history with this shadowy figure.
Chapter 19: They have gone missing? / No, no, no, no, no, no, no / No, et cetera
The disappearances at camp intensify. Apollo and the campers investigate, and Apollo becomes increasingly convinced the Grove of Dodona is the key. He has more disturbing visions and begins to understand the scope of the Triumvirate's plans to control all five ancient Oracles across the world.
Chapter 20: Don't paint over gods / If you're redecorating / That's, like, common sense
Rachel Elizabeth Dare arrives at camp by helicopter. She looks thinner and exhausted, having spent months investigating Triumvirate Holdings. She reveals the corporation owns vast amounts of property and wealth, and its three owners appear to be ancient Roman emperors who have been building their empire for centuries. Rachel's Oracle cave has been whitewashed in frustration. Apollo reveals that five ancient Oracles exist, and the Grove of Dodona may be at Camp Half-Blood.
