Story: The Tailor
At the Grand Palace, the Grisha tailor Genya Safin serves as attendant to the Queen, Marya Lantsov, while secretly intercepting Alina Starkov's letters to her tracker Mal Oretsev on the orders of The Darkling. Trapped between the Queen's jealousy and the abuse of the King, Pyotr Lantsov, Genya is offered a choice by the Darkling: safety in exile, or vengeance in his service. She chooses vengeance. In the stables he hands her the bundle of Alina's letters to do with as she wishes, and Genya burns every one - severing Alina's last link to Mal and accepting that mercy is a luxury she cannot afford.
