A creature warped beyond recognition by five hundred years of possessing the One Ring. Once a hobbit-like river dweller called Sméagol, he murdered his cousin to obtain the Ring and was consumed by it, retreating into the dark beneath the Misty Mountains where Bilbo found him. Gollum is pitiable and dangerous in equal measure - a living warning of what the Ring does to those who carry it, and an unwitting instrument of fate.
