The head of the Assassins' Guild, a thin, controlled man who wears the extreme black clothing of his profession. Initially appearing as a composed authority figure, he becomes increasingly unhinged after taking possession of the gonne from Edward d'Eath. He murders d'Eath, the beggar girl Lettice Knibbs, and Acting-Constable Cuddy while under the gonne's influence, believing that Ankh-Morpork needs a king. He is ultimately killed by Carrot's sword in the Guild.
