He was trained at the severe Guild of Fools and Joculators in Ankh-Morpork, where he endured years of brutal tuition but graduated top of his class through sheer determination. Despite his jester's motley, he is actually an intelligent and perceptive man who understands the power of words. He is loyal to his master despite loathing his role, and he develops a tender romance with Magrat Garlick. He is eventually revealed to be the son of the previous king's fool and is crowned King Verence II.
