Son of Eol and Aredhel, nephew of Turgon. He rises high in the inner councils of Gondolin, but the considerable distance between the loyalty his rank demands and the longings of his own heart is one of the threads the Fall of Gondolin's account follows with careful, methodical attention.

Son of Huor, guided by Ulmo to Gondolin where he weds Idril and fathers Eärendil. He leads the survivors of Gondolin's fall to safety and later sails west, becoming the only mortal Man numbered among the Eldar.

Noldorin Elf, son of Aranwë. The last surviving mariner of the ships Turgon sent westward seeking Valinor. Cast ashore at Nevrast by Ulmo's grace after shipwreck, he became Tuor's guide to the Hidden Kingdom of Gondolin.

Captain of the Guard at the Outer Gate of Gondolin. An old friend of Voronwë, he was torn between the strict law forbidding strangers and his friendship when Voronwë arrived with the mortal Tuor.

Lord of the Fountains in Gondolin, Warden of the Great Gate (the Seventh Gate of Steel). Clad all in silver with a diamond-pointed spike upon his helm, he received Tuor at the last gate and recognised him as Ulmo's messenger.

A powerful Elf-lord of Rivendell sent by Elrond to search for Frodo on the road. He lends Frodo his white horse Asfaloth for the desperate flight to the Ford of Bruinen, where the Ringwraiths are defeated.

Lord of the House of the Heavenly Arch in Gondolin. He fights valiantly in the city's defence and is among those who escape with Tuor through the secret passage.

Lord of the House of the Swallow in Gondolin. He is slain during the fall of the city, struck down while shooting at Balrogs from the walls.

Lord of the Houses of the Pillar and of the Tower of Snow in Gondolin. He falls in the fighting in the great square during the city's destruction.

Lord of the House of the Hammer of Wrath in Gondolin. A fierce warrior who had been a thrall of Morgoth, he leads a devastating charge against the Balrogs but falls with all his people.

Lord of the House of the Harp in Gondolin. A craven and flatterer who falls under Maeglin's influence and hides during the battle for the city.

Lord of the House of the Tree in Gondolin. He fights bravely in the city's defence during the assault.
