What to Expect
Honest timelines and how we decide what to work on.
Typical timelines
Review
Most requests are reviewed within a few days. A curator checks that the request is clear, not a duplicate, and fits OpenFiction's scope.
Voting period
Once approved, requests stay open for votes indefinitely. There's no deadline - requests accumulate interest over time.
Adding content
This is the part that varies most. Adding a single character might take an hour. Adding an entire book series with dozens of characters, appearances, and relationships can take weeks of careful work.
What affects prioritisation
- Community interest - Requests with more votes tend to be prioritised, but it's not purely a popularity contest.
- Scope and effort - A request for a standalone book with 5 characters is quicker to fulfil than a 14-book series with 200 characters.
- Current focus - We sometimes focus on a particular genre or author to build depth rather than breadth.
- Data availability - Content is easier to add when there are clear, well-structured source materials to work from.
How you can help
The fastest way to get content into OpenFiction is to contribute it yourself. Contributions go through curator review but don't compete with other requests for our team's time.
