Reputation & Trust

How contributing builds your standing in the community.

How trust works today

Right now, trust on OpenFiction is built informally through your contributions. Curators get to know contributors through the review process - the more accurate and helpful your contributions are, the more trust you build.

We're planning to introduce a formal reputation system in the future that will make this visible on your profile, but for now it's based on your track record with curators.

What builds trust

  • Having your contributions approved consistently
  • Providing accurate information with clear sources
  • Responding well to feedback when changes are requested
  • Contributing to areas that need more coverage

Honest mistakes are expected, especially when you're starting out. The occasional correction is completely normal and won't count against you.

Becoming a curator

Contributors with consistently high-quality work may be invited to become curators. Curators can review other people's contributions, manage content requests, and help maintain the site.

There's no fixed threshold or application process - we look for a track record of accuracy, helpfulness, and good judgement.

Account statuses

  • Active - Normal account. You can contribute freely and your contributions go through standard review.
  • Restricted - Temporary. All your contributions require review. This might happen if there have been repeated quality issues. Work on improving accuracy to have the restriction lifted.
  • Suspended - You can still browse and read, but you can't contribute. Suspensions are temporary and include a reason and expiry date.
  • Banned - Permanent block. This is reserved for serious or repeated violations.
