Community & Moderation
How curators maintain a healthy, welcoming community.
Building contributor trust
Trust is built through the review process. As you review contributions, you'll get to know which contributors consistently provide accurate, well-sourced information.
We're planning to introduce a formal reputation score in the future. For now, trust is managed informally through your experience with each contributor.
Handling reports
Users can report inaccurate content or problematic behaviour. When reviewing reports:
- Check the reported content against the source material
- If the report is valid, correct the information and thank the reporter
- If the report is a disagreement rather than an error, use your judgement
- For behavioural reports, assess whether moderation action is needed
Moderation actions
Restrict
All contributions require review. Use for repeated accuracy issues. Temporary - can be lifted once the contributor improves.
Suspend
User can browse but not contribute. Use for serious or repeated issues. Requires a reason and has an expiry date. Escalate to an admin if unsure.
Ban
Permanent block. Only admins can ban users. If you believe a ban is warranted, escalate with your reasoning.
Setting the tone
Curators set the community tone. How you handle mistakes, give feedback, and enforce standards shapes whether contributors feel welcome or discouraged.
- Assume good intent - most errors are honest mistakes
- Teach rather than punish - explain the standard before enforcing it
- Be consistent - apply the same standards to everyone
- Acknowledge effort - even imperfect contributions show someone cares
