The One Ring - Middle-earth Glossary | OpenFiction
The One Ring
Object
The master Ring forged by Sauron in the fires of Mount Doom during the Second Age, into which he poured much of his own power and will. The One Ring was designed to control all the other Rings of Power and dominate their bearers. It grants invisibility to mortal wearers but slowly corrupts them, extending their life unnaturally while consuming their will. The Ring has a will of its own, seeking always to return to its master. It can only be destroyed where it was made - in the volcanic fires of Orodruin. Its destruction by Frodo and Gollum at the end of the Third Age brings about the fall of Sauron and the end of the war.
