A sturdy, proud race created by the Vala Aule, who could not wait for the coming of Iluvatar's Children. Though Iluvatar gave them true life, the Dwarves were not part of his original design. They are master craftsmen and miners, lovers of stone and metal, and fierce warriors. The Seven Fathers of the Dwarves founded great kingdoms including Khazad-dum (Moria), Erebor, and the Iron Hills. Their complex relationship with Elves ranges from the deep friendship of Gimli and Legolas to the ancient enmity between the Dwarves of Nogrod and the Elves of Doriath.
