The Men of the West, descendants of the Numenoreans who survived the downfall of their island kingdom and founded the realms of Arnor and Gondor in Middle-earth. The Dunedain are tall, long-lived, and noble in bearing. By the end of the Third Age, the northern Dunedain have dwindled to a scattered people led by the Rangers, while the southern Dunedain form the ruling class of Gondor. Aragorn is their chief and heir to both kingdoms.
