The centuries-long conflict in Beleriand during the First Age, driven by the Noldor's quest to recover the Silmarils from Morgoth. Beginning with the Return of the Noldor from Valinor, the wars encompass the great battles of Beleriand, the tragedy of Turin Turambar, the tale of Beren and Luthien, and the Fall of Gondolin. The wars end in the near-total defeat of the Elves and Men of Beleriand before the Valar intervene in the War of Wrath.
