The calendar system used by the Hobbits of the Shire, counting years from the founding of the Shire in the year 1601 of the Third Age. Under Shire Reckoning (abbreviated SR), the War of the Ring takes place in the year 1419 SR. The Hobbits also maintain their own calendar of twelve months with distinctive names, and their timekeeping reflects the insular, self-sufficient nature of Shire culture.
