The Lonely Mountain, a great peak in the northeast of Middle-earth and the site of one of the wealthiest Dwarf-kingdoms. Founded by Thrain I, Erebor was conquered by the dragon Smaug, who drove out the Dwarves and claimed their treasure hoard. Thorin Oakenshield's company, accompanied by Bilbo Baggins, reclaims the mountain in the events of The Hobbit. By the time of the War of the Ring, Erebor is once again a thriving Dwarven realm.
