A vast region in the northwest of Middle-earth during the First Age, home to the great Elven kingdoms of Doriath, Gondolin, and Nargothrond. Beleriand was the stage for the centuries-long wars between the Noldor and Morgoth over the Silmarils. It was largely destroyed and sank beneath the sea during the War of Wrath at the end of the First Age.
