A small, peaceful folk of Middle-earth, averaging about three and a half feet tall, with large hairy feet and a love of comfort, good food, and simple pleasures. They live primarily in the Shire, in hobbit-holes or conventional houses. Despite their unassuming nature, Hobbits possess a remarkable resilience and capacity for courage. Their resistance to the corruption of the One Ring proves crucial to the fate of Middle-earth, as it is the Hobbits Bilbo and Frodo Baggins who bear the Ring and ultimately bring about its destruction.
