Elvish Languages
Language
The languages devised by Tolkien for the Elves of Middle-earth, the most fully developed of all his invented languages. The two primary Elvish tongues are Quenya (the ancient high tongue of the Noldor and Vanyar, inspired by Finnish) and Sindarin (the living language of the Grey Elves, inspired by Welsh). Both have complete grammars, extensive vocabularies, and their own writing systems. Most Elvish names in The Lord of the Rings are Sindarin.
