A vast expanse of stagnant pools and treacherous bogs lying between the Emyn Muil and the gates of Mordor. The marshes have expanded over the ancient battlefield of the Last Alliance, and the ghostly forms of fallen warriors - Elves, Men, and Orcs - can be seen beneath the water. Gollum guides Frodo and Sam through the Dead Marshes on their way to Mordor.
