The Heart of the Mountain, a great white jewel discovered beneath Erebor by the Dwarves of Thorin's line. It shone with its own inner light and was prized above all other treasures of the Lonely Mountain. The Arkenstone becomes a source of conflict during the events of The Hobbit, when Bilbo secretly takes it in an attempt to broker peace between the Dwarves and the armies at their gates.
