A breed of great demonic wolves in Middle-earth, allied with Orcs and Goblins throughout all three Ages. Wargs serve as mounts for Orc riders in battle and as scouts for the servants of Sauron and Saruman. They are intelligent and malicious, operating in organised packs. The Fellowship is attacked by Wargs on the approach to Moria, and Warg-riders feature in several engagements during the War of the Ring.
