A parallel world inhabited by the mulefa, gentle, intelligent creatures who use large seed-pod wheels to travel across their grasslands. The mulefa have a symbiotic relationship with enormous trees whose seed pods provide their wheels, and they can see Dust (which they call sraf) naturally. Mary Malone lives among them and learns that Dust is flowing out of all the worlds, threatening the collapse of consciousness itself.
