Dark creatures that feed on human happiness and can consume a person's soul with the Dementor's Kiss. They guard Azkaban and later ally with Voldemort. Their presence causes intense cold and despair, and they are repelled only by the Patronus Charm. Harry is particularly susceptible to them because of the trauma in his past.
