A secret student defence group formed by Harry, Ron, and Hermione in defiance of Dolores Umbridge's refusal to teach practical magic. Meeting in the Room of Requirement, Harry teaches members to cast Patronuses, Stunning Spells, and other defensive magic. The DA fights in both the Battle of the Department of Mysteries and the Battle of Hogwarts.
