After Protogen's destruction, Mao-Kwikowski continued hybrid research on Io, creating protomolecule-human hybrids as potential weapons. The corporation's crimes were ultimately exposed, Jules-Pierre Mao was arrested, and the company collapsed. His daughter Clarissa Mao attempted to avenge the family name by framing James Holden, before eventually finding redemption as a crew member on the Rocinante under the name Peaches.
