A warrior people inhabiting the Aiel Waste, east of the Spine of the World. Descendants of the Da'shain Aiel, pacifist servants of the Aes Sedai during the Age of Legends, the modern Aiel are among the most fearsome fighters in the world. They veil their faces before killing, refuse to touch swords, and consider battle 'the dance.' Organised into twelve clans and numerous warrior societies, they follow a complex code of honour called ji'e'toh. The Aiel War of 976-978 NE brought them across the Spine of the World for the first time in living memory.
