Like Shardblades, Shardplate from the era of the Recreance is 'dead' - its spren have been severed. Living Shardplate, formed by the lesser spren attracted to a Radiant's bond, can repair itself and respond to the wearer's will. Shardplate and Blade together make a warrior nearly unstoppable on the battlefield.
