The most feared gang in Ketterdam's Barrel district, led by Kaz Brekker. Unlike the city's other gangs, the Dregs have no patron house and operate on pure reputation and ruthlessness. Their base is the Crow Club, a gambling den that funds their operations.

An elite Fjerdan military order dedicated to hunting and capturing Grisha, whom Fjerdans consider unnatural abominations. Fanatically trained and religiously motivated, the Drüskelle are among the most dangerous enemies a Grisha can face.

People born with the ability to manipulate matter at its most fundamental level, known as the Small Science. Grisha are divided into three orders: the Corporalki (who work with living matter), the Etherealki (who work with natural elements), and the Materialki (who work with materials and chemical compounds). Persecuted in some countries and conscripted in others, Grisha occupy an uneasy position across the continent.
