Also called the Unsea, a vast swath of impenetrable darkness that splits Ravka in two, stretching from north to south across the country. Within the Fold, there is no light, and it is infested with volcra - eyeless, winged predators that devour anyone attempting to cross. Created centuries ago by the Black Heretic (later revealed to be the Darkling) through an act of merzost, the Fold is the defining catastrophe of Ravkan history and the central obstacle of the Shadow and Bone trilogy.
