The concluding volume of the Rain Wild Chronicles resolves the political and personal threads of the sequence as Kelsingra begins to function as a living city again and the dragons approach something closer to what they were always meant to be. The Elderling transformations of the keepers reach their conclusions, and the novel examines what has been gained and lost in the process. The political threat from outside Kelsingra comes to a head, and the chronicle ends with the Rain Wild world substantially changed from where it began in Ship of Magic. Blood of Dragons ties the Rain Wild Chronicles more explicitly to the wider Elderlings mythology in preparation for the Fitz and the Fool trilogy that follows.
