The Union's secret police, answerable to the Arch Lector and tasked with rooting out treason, corruption, and dissent. In practice it is a political weapon wielded by whoever controls the Arch Lector's chair. Glokta, Vick dan Teufel, and Pike all serve the Inquisition across the series, each discovering that its methods leave marks on the user as much as the subject.
