The ancestral seat of House Lannister, carved from a great stone hill overlooking the Sunset Sea on the western coast of Westeros. The Rock contains gold mines that have made the Lannisters the wealthiest family in the realm. It has never been taken by siege or assault. The castle is so vast that entire halls and chambers within it have been sealed and forgotten.
