The common name for obsidian, a naturally occurring volcanic glass. Dragonglass is one of the few substances that can kill Others (White Walkers), shattering them on contact. It is found in abundance on Dragonstone. The Children of the Forest used dragonglass weapons, and Sam Tarly discovers its effectiveness against the Others. The name comes from the belief that it is formed by dragonfire.
