Enormous fire-breathing reptiles, once the ultimate weapon of the Valyrian Freehold and later the Targaryen dynasty. Dragons bond with riders and can grow to immense size over centuries. They died out in Westeros approximately a century and a half before the events of the story, and were believed extinct until Daenerys Targaryen hatched three from ancient petrified eggs: Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion. Dragons are resistant to fire and their flame is hot enough to melt stone.
