An elite body of seven knights sworn to protect the King and the royal family. Members serve for life, renouncing lands, titles, marriage, and children. They wear white armour and white cloaks and are traditionally the finest warriors in the realm. The Kingsguard was founded by Aegon the Conqueror. Notable members include Ser Barristan Selmy, Ser Jaime Lannister (the Kingslayer), and Ser Arthur Dayne, the Sword of the Morning.
