The original inhabitants of Westeros, a diminutive, long-lived, non-human race who lived in harmony with nature long before the arrival of the First Men. They worshipped the old gods and carved faces into weirwood trees. Their greenseers could perceive events through the weirwood network. They fought the First Men before making the Pact, and later allied with Men against the Others. By the time of the story, they are believed extinct, though a remnant survives beyond the Wall.
