Beings of immense power who have transcended normal mortality, including gods, demi-gods, and powerful mortals who have achieved a form of immortality. The distinction between an Ascendant and a god is not always clear - gods hold a position in a High House and draw power from worship, while Ascendants may or may not. Many characters in the series become Ascendants, and the gods themselves can be challenged, killed, or replaced.
