The imperial court of Jamaillia, the southern empire whose authority over Bingtown is increasingly exercised through corrupt and self-interested officials rather than genuine governance. The Satrap Cosgo and his Companions represent a decadent and dysfunctional ruling class whose failure to honour the original Bingtown charter is one of the catalysts for the political crisis of the Liveship Traders Trilogy. The court's distance from the realities of Bingtown and the Rain Wilds makes it both threatening and ineffectual in ways that Hobb uses to examine the nature of imperial power.
