The sequin-sized dollars are theoretically made of gold, but the metal has been adulterated so often that there is more gold in an equivalent weight of sea water. Despite this, the dollar is the currency of choice throughout the Circle Sea lands, because Ankh-Morpork is the only place with anything worth buying.
