An area of rolling downland in the Ramtops region, known locally as 'the wold' in old speech. It is sheep-farming country, home to the Aching family and a clan of Nac Mac Feegle. The Chalk's landscape of green hills and gentle valleys belies the toughness of its inhabitants.
